Swaminathan Kannan is a seasoned energy industry leader with over three decades of experience in the natural gas and LNG sector. Having spent more than 31 years with GAIL (India) Limited, he has developed extensive expertise across the entire gas value chain, including pipeline infrastructure, gas processing facilities, LNG regasification terminals, project development, operations, commercial management, business development, and international energy initiatives.

A Mechanical Engineering graduate from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, Mr. Kannan further strengthened his managerial and commercial capabilities through an MBA from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. His career has been characterized by a unique blend of technical proficiency, operational excellence, and strategic business leadership.

Throughout his tenure with GAIL, Mr. Kannan has held diverse responsibilities spanning natural gas transmission, LNG infrastructure, project execution, commercial operations, and market development. This broad exposure has provided him with a holistic understanding of both the infrastructure and commercial dimensions of the global gas industry.

Currently serving as President of GAIL Global (USA) Inc. in Houston, Texas, he leads GAIL's engagement with the North American energy market, overseeing LNG sourcing, business development, strategic partnerships, and investment opportunities across the U.S. energy value chain.

With deep insight into global energy dynamics and the rapidly evolving LNG landscape, Mr. Kannan brings a valuable perspective on energy security, the expanding role of U.S. LNG, and the long-term energy requirements of India and other Asian economies. His combination of technical, operational, commercial, and international experience positions him as a respected voice on the future of LNG, global gas markets, and cross-border energy collaboration.
